Port Eliot Festival Wardrobe Department: Better pack carefully for Fashion Camp!

Louise Gray at Port Eliot Festival

Maybe you’ve had your wellies stuck in a few puddles or lost your shades in a mosh pit or two already this summer? Well here’s a tip for a very civillised weekend in the English countryside – get yourself to Port Elliot – the most fashionable festival. Part of the literary festie (think a lot of authors reading and discussing their books and more) Port Eliot in St Germans in Cornwall, who have instigated a rather thrilling and extremely fashionable corner of the event; The Wardrobe Department, under the direction of fashion powerhouse, Sarah Mower.

She said; ‘The hoity-toity fashion world doesn't exactly have a reputation fo r being fun, spontaneous and generous but that's what to expect when stepping through the walled garden gate to The Wardrobe Department. [We] inaugurated [it] last year as an ad hoc experiment in improvisational dressing-up for the hell of it’

Such a roaring success was it, that it’s back this year with a range of amazing names from the world of London Fashion all carrying out fantastic interactive activites. For example, Rubbish Magazine will be running the Fashion Olympics hosted by Christopher Biggins, Mary Katrantzou will giving a talk about how she creates her dresses from imagery and Louise Gray will be showing everyone how to achieve creative face and body painting; to the standards of her eye-popping catwalk models, no doubt.

There’ll be making galore, as milliner Piers Atkinson and accessories queen Fred Butler put on workshops where everyone can make themselves an elaborate piece of head-couture in which to parade around the festival. Alex Fury of LOVE magazine will be hosting the Fashion Doll’s Tea party with dolls outfitted by the likes of Christopher Kane, Erdem, Giles Deacon, Louise Wilson, Gareth Pugh, Meadham Kirchhoff, Roksanda Ilincic and Amanda Harlech. Wow! Sound good?

If you are young and hoping to break into fashion – this could be a brilliant opportunity to come down and meet some of the most influential people in the biz. Aspiring models are encouraged to shimmy past David Sims ‘Scout Tent’ for a portrait too - NOT an opportunity to be missed. Alternatively, if you want to enjoy a sedate, relaxing and very creative festival in lovely Cornwall then book your tickets now!
