Naomi Watts Recreates Princess Diana's Blue Versace Dress For Caught In Flight Film

Naomi Watts Recreates Princess Diana's Blue Versace Dress For Caught In Flight Film | Grazia Fashion

Another day, another spooky Diana resemblance from actress Naomi Watts…

Continuing to film Caught In Flight, a biopic about the last few years of the Princess’s life, the Australian actress stepped out yesterday in a recreation of the famous blue Versace number Diana wore for in Sydney in 1996. Accurate down to the jewel atop the one-shouldered gown, it’s a spooky reincarnation of the dress hand-made by one of Princess Diana’s favourite designers.

She credited Gianni Versace with transforming her post-royal wardrobe after her split with Prince Charles – turning to him for some of her most significant outfits. ‘Gianni wanted Versace classic elegance,’ the designer's sister Donatella has said about their working relationship. ‘He picked out the colours of her skin and hair.’

Because that’s the thing about this nine-week shoot of the Lady Di biopic. Watts’s do dgy blonde coiffed-crop aside, we’re enjoying seeing the near-daily reminders of the Princess' fashion escapades. So far we’ve seen a Catherine Walker sparkly floor-length number, the black jacket Savile Row tailor Andrew Ramroop made for her Panorama interview (‘Diana called and said, “Can you make me an elegant blazer? Nothing too overdone. I have a special occasion…” he remembers of the outfit) and the white jeans + Cerruti blazer she wore for her ill-fated last night alive in Paris…

But what about that pink Versace suit with matching pillbox h at? Or the Catherine-what’s-with-that-waist-Walker gown she wore to meet the Nigerian President? Or that taffeta Jacques Azagury ballerina number? Ah, the '80s… Fun, weren’t they?
