In terms of major models around fashiontown, Erin Wasson keeps herself pretty low-key. She’s not much of a limelight seeker, so big thanks to Esprit for bringing the gorgeous Texan girl back onto our computer screens today with these new campaign images for the high street store’s Fall collection. In honour of her mould-breaking Wasson-ness, we’ve created a list of ten reasons why we think the model/actress/designer/surfer-girl is so AWESOME.
1: Her hair. Once upon a time, when Erin first hit the modelling scene, she had a shaved head. Now she blazes a trail for the scruffy-chic mussed-up do, which makes it ok to not use a brush. Thanks Erin!
2: That she was once cut out of an Alexander McQueen outfit after the show. With a horse-bit and a mane, this sounded like a memorable, but tricky, runway to rock. Kudos.
3: That she styled many an Alexander Wan g show in the early days. It’s no wonder the American god of slouchy bad-ass cool relied upon his favourite model muse to bring her own laid-back vibe.
4. Her jewellery line Low Luv. It kick-started the trend for alternative body jewellery. Ya know, all those fine metal harness that Rihanna likes wearing.
5: That one day she’s hitting the surf and the next she’s a Maybelline chick and Victoria’s Secret hottie. We like a model with extra layers.
6: She’s Justin Timberlake’s ex. Well, not really. But she pretended to in a campaign for his William Rast denim line. That’s enough for us.
7: Her tattoos. Plenty of them to look mean, but they’re all delicate enough to be pretty and feminine, too. Not a body-inking balance that many can achieve.
8: Sometimes she is practically naked. And we don’t mind. There’s something about her whatever-I’ll-do-what-I-want nonchalance on the r ed carpet that makes it ok. And the fact that she’s said her clothes look as though she ‘couldn’t give two s**ts’ makes us chuckle.
9: She doesn’t follow seasonal trends. She does her own thing and finds inspiration on the streets – even when catwalking for the most high profile fashion houses like Balenciaga and Givenchy.
10: She has a skate ramp in her back garden. Yes, really. Erin’s pad in Venice Beach has its own – a dream of hers since childhood dontcha know!
